After IE (Internet Explorer) has not been supported by Microsoft anymore, people are considering which browser will be the next IE and what kind of browser I should choose to use. Obviously, Google Chrome is still the top market shared in the world. But its high memory usage which forces users to choose the other new Chromium browser, Microsoft Edge, which is implemented by Microsoft for sure. Even you’re using Mac OS or Linux, you can also choose Edge for your default browser. But what other else options we can try?
Recently, there is a company called “The Browser Company”, implemented “Arc Browser” based on Chromium but provide a total different experience than common browsers we are familiar with. It not only provides the basic browser’s features, but also is focus on how to organize your tabs. It introduces multiple layers and hierarchy relationship.
Space
It likes virtual desktop, it can let you isolate the tabs for your personal and work, or you can organize them by different purposes.
You can also manage your spaces and re-order them by dragging. It is very useful to separate huge tabs for your diary works between personal and work especially remote work now.
Today
Arc browser creates a cool concept that your can pin your tabs to the Pinned area. Tabs are created and put them under Today area. And you can click “Clear” button to clean all of tabs you created and are still in Today.
Favorite
This is a little different from other browser. When you add a Tab as Favorite, it will be “Pinned” on the top of sidebar. It can also preview your calendar or email when you hover your mouse on the tab which is your inbox or calendar (Gmail, Outlook…).
Split View
I love this feature mostly! You can create a Split View inside the browser. And choose two different tabs and show them at same time. If you are developer, you can read two different codes in one view. Or if your are practicing a new skill (Piano like me 😆), you can open two different tabs for efficiency.
Boost Mode
It is an interesting feature that you can modify any website temporary. For example, CSS style, inject some JavaScript for data…etc. It is very useful if you are developing a website and you want to see how it works at some different scenarios or data visualization.
Others
Currently, the features are still less Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. I think some of them are still on the way. And if you are interested at trying this browser, you can access the official website, register your email and … wait. Yes, you can’t download this browser in any way until you receive the invitation email after registering. It may wait for a while (2–3 weeks for me).
Conclusion
I always used Arc browser few days, and it looks great and smoothy without any problem so far. I also use it for my work browser. I still took a while to understand how to use it. And it can import your bookmarks and passwords from your previous browser (Safari or Edge), but you CAN”T save back them to your account. I mean, they can be only synced by iCloud now even you need to create an account and profile for your browser. And for security concern, you may not consider import your payment methods and passwords to Arc browser until it has completely done and shipped, from my opinion.
